It was over. Clayton was dead and his henchmen arrested. The ship was ready to take them back to England. The only problem was, she did not want to leave any more. She had come to Africa to find gorillas and she had succeeded. However, she had found much more than just gorillas… which made leaving that much harder.
As she stood on the beach, the captain and her father preparing the boat to take them back to the ship, she had to face the hard decision to say goodbye to the wild woman that had wormed her way into her heart.
"London will seem so small compared to all of this…" Jane said dejectedly.
"I will miss you, Jane."
At that moment she wanted to say something, to ask her to come to England, even though she knew the modern world would not be a safe place for someone as wild and untamable as Kirezi.
"Ms Porter!" the captain called.
"I-I know… I'm coming," she said weakly briefly glancing at the captain before turning to look at Kirezi again. She gave up her and gave a tired sigh. "Well… I suppose we should say goodbye…" Jane said extending her hand.
Kirezi looked at her hand for a few moments then motioned hers, opening Jane's palm with her knuckles so the two palms could mirror each other the same way they did when the two first met. Jane felt overwhelmed with sadness as she looked at their hands and when Kirezi said 'goodbye', with a voice so heartbreaking she almost broke into tears and had to run off before her emotions got the better of her.
She rushed to the boat and got in quickly, the captain pushing off and taking them out to sea.
"Goodbye, Kirezi! Goodbye," her father called and she felt a knife go through her heart. "Oh, I'm going to miss that girl…" the old man said and took the seat in front of her.
Jane was still staring at her left hand, her right hand lying gently on it then she quickly grabbed her glove and put it on, hoping to lock away her feelings but her father suddenly took her hand into his.
"Jane, dear…" he said softly. "I can't help feeling that you should stay."
How could he say something like that when it took all her strength to just sit in that boat?
"Daddy, please don't. We've been through all of this," she said bitterly, fidgeting with the other glove, trying to put it on. "I… couldn't possibly st- I… I belong in England. With you with, people and…" a gust of wind cut her sentence short as it blew her glove out of her hands, carrying it back to shore, next to Kirezi.
The ape woman picked it up gently and looked at her and Jane locked gaze with her, an identical glimmer of longing in their eyes.
"But you love her…" the professor insisted.
She did, she knew she did and she did not want to leave. Nothing in that jungle could be terrifying enough to keep her away. But it would mean giving up everything she knew, giving up an entire world for one she knew so little about. She turned to her father, her eyes begging for help, for an answer to her question: 'What should I do?'
The old man smiled and nudged his head towards the beach. "Go on," he whispered.
A feeling of warmth and exhilaration came over her as she smiled back and hugged him. Then, without a word, she turned around, getting to her feet and jumped into the water. The folds of her dress slowing her in the water, she picked the front in her arms and kept running through the waves, her heart flying above the clouds. Kirezi looked confused at her and Jane simply jumped on her, knocking her down into the water and as the two sat up she understood. A moment later, excitement took over Jane and she rushed the woman into a kiss. It only lasted a couple of seconds and her reason snapped her out of it and she pulled back feeling embarrassed.
Kirezi looked pleasantly shocked as she handed Jane her glove.
"Eh… ha, ha… thank you for getting my glove…" the Englishwoman said awkwardly but next thing she knew, Kirezi took her face into her hands. Jane held her breath as she was being pulled closer. "Thank you…" she whispered before the two locked lips again.
Although she felt like she was on cloud nine, seeing the entire family of gorillas, along with the large elephant, made her feel a little embarrassed and when she pointed out the audience to Kirezi, she smiled and led her to the beach where one of the gorillas, Kirezi's mother, approached them. The female gorilla raised her hand and Jane offered hers. She could have sworn the ape smiled at her, accepting her into the family, as shown when the other apes gathered around her and Kirezi.
For those who haven't realised it, this is a re-write of the Disney animation of Tarzan, replacing the main, male character, Tarzan, with a female character: Fera (Latin for wild... i hope)

This was written for the Lesbian Fairy Tale Twist-up contest held by #TheLesbianClub

i may be late with my entry... and may not have picked an appropriate story... but who cares? it was fun to write so enjoy.

for those who may have a problem with turning this classic disney movie into a lesbian love story... TOUGH! don't bring your beef here, this won't be the last story of this type that i'll write so don't get me started.

NOTE: after some research i found a better name for the ape-woman: Kirezi, supposedly a Rwandan name that means jewel, brilliant, beauty
